Sweden & Denmark - A Unique Connection
Malmö Designer Village lies at the heart of the Greater Copenhagen region - a space connecting people, economy and culture.
Linked by way more than their physical closeness and the Oresund Bridge, Sweden and Denmark share a close connection with one another - be it politically economically or culturally.
Nowhere can this connection be better felt than in the Greater Copnehagen area. In this month of love we want to celebrate the unique bond that connects these two countries.
Seperated only by a narrow strip of water, historically Denmark and Sweden’s relationship hasn’t always been as friendly as it is today. Between the 15th and 19th centuries many wars were fought between the two countries, and yet, in 2026, Swedes commute daily to Copenhagen for work and Danes hop over to Malmö for cheap candy and cheaper gas prices.
Honouring culture & heritage
In honour of the two countries' connection, Malmö Designer Village incorporates a blend of both Swedish and Danish culture into its design and offerings.
A great example is the SMAK & HYGGE food hall, which celebrates a shared cultural aspect by bringing together food hall culture and the love of great fika places, which also make for the ideal space to discuss which of the two countries has the best pastries.
This close connection is also reflected in the village’s brand mix. By representing both Swedish as well as Danish brands and designers in its brand mix, Malmö Designer Village aims to celebrate and foster the two countries' shared design heritage.
Honouring Connectivity
Another highlight of Malmö Designer Village’s dedication to celebrating the strong connection between Sweden and Denmark is it’s partnership with the Oresund Bridge, the connection point between Copenhagen and Malmö. With this collaboration the village hopes to make it even easier for Danish visitor to visit Malmö Designer Village and enjoy the blend if shopping, leisure, food and culture.
